Guts poker involves making the best possible hand with only three cards. This variation of poker can be played online or in any poker room. Flushes and straights are made with three cards, but straights always beat flushes.
Before starting the game, all players need to ante in by placing their bids on the table. This amount would depend on the stake table you’re sitting in or the fixed amount required in the game you’re playing in. The dealer would then give three cards (one at a time face down) to all players. Each player would view their cards and decide if they’d like to stay in the game or to fold. If you choose to fold, you won’t have to match the pot required at the end of the game, but by folding, you end all your chances of winning the pot.
Every player remaining in the table would now reveal their cards to determine the winning hand. If you have the best hand among the other active players, you win the pot and you can take the winnings from the center of the table.
Anyone who stayed in the game but lost should match the pot, which would then be added to the pot for the following round. All players who have matched the pot are no longer required to ante in for the next round. However, if all players prefer to fold, everyone re-ante, is given three new cards and continue with a new round. If two or more players have the best hand, the pot is split.
